Oliver Darné. Miel Béton

OLIVER DARNÉ is a french guy who developed a crazy project: to produce Miel béton or concrete honey.

A graphic designer and visual artist by trade, OLIVIER DARNÉ began his investigation of bees in 2000, when he first placed a single beehive on his house in Saint Denis (France). Following that experiment with the installation of a dozen hives on the roof of city hall, Olivier was fascinated by the idea of sending bees out into the city as "prospectors" of the urban environment.

Since urban bees can’t find much nectar in sidewalks and roadways, they gather in what Olivier Darné calls the interstices of the city: parks, balcony planters, empty lots, rooftop terraces, roundabouts, and tree-lined streets.

So OLIVIER’s Miel béton, or concrete honey is being produced right in the northern Parisian suburb of Saint Denis.

A beautiful project!

Sorry for my english readers, the video is only in french but if you are really interested, you can visit these 2 websites about the project: www.banquedumiel.org or www.parti-poetique.org

or you can buy Miel Béton, here!

Miriam Lehle & Sabine Egler

Crumpled Paper collection

German born designers MIRIAM LEHLE and SABINE EGLER often experiment with a variety of textiles and materials using new methods to create stunning and avant garde designs.

MIRIAM graduated as a fashion designer from the University of Design, Pforzheim, while SABINE graduated with a degree in Textile Design at the Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart after which their label PROSE STUDIO was born.

MIRIAM's collection, Golden decay was one of the finalist at the International de mode d'Hyères festival in 2008.

The collection Crumpled Paper story is absolutely unique and gorgeous, with pieces which include the combination of wrinkles, prints, creases and knits which are manipulated to create these designs.

Lick Line series. 2003. colored pencil on paper

After Green Pink Caviar by MARILYN MINTER, I choose to present JULIA RANDALL's colored pencil drawings incorporated depictions of mouths.

Voyeuristic, suggestive, slightly grotesque, and humorous drawings: WFW loves that!

Marilyn Minter. Green Pink Caviar

MARILYN MINTER is an american photographer/painter specializes in photo-realistic images with an interest in juxtaposing beauty with the grotesque. MINTER's work examines the relationships between the body, photography, and painting, tapping into cultural anxieties about sexuality and desire.

Her high definition video entitled Green Pink Caviar captures the most minute movements of model mouths licking candy and cake decoration (you can buy the DVD on her website).

I would like to watch to the whole video.

The Construction of Memories. A summer night

In her eerie, dreamlike nightscapes Danish photographer ASTRID KRUSE JENSEN explores the passage between reality and imagination, and the constant clash between nature and the artificial. An abiding sense of menace pervades the jaw-dropping beauty of each nocturne. Through her instinctive use of the dark of night combined with her appropriation of artificial light sources, ASTRID KRUSE JENSEN makes nature her very own theatre.

She only uses the light sources available on location. The wealth of detail in the images is due to the long exposure time.

Pierre Siedel

Still/Moving series. 2008

PIERRE SIEDEL has been working as a director of photography for cinema and television (including fiction series, video clip and advertising) in France and Belgium which is his native country.

In parallel, he has developed his own photographic projects, from documentary photography to a more conceptual approach on artificial urban landscapes.

PIERRE SIEDEL about Still/ Moving series:

Being isolated from the rushing crowd, one feels alienated, lonely, detached even abandoned. In this artificial universe, the underground transit bubble stirs the mind to a kind of self-reflection. I thought it would be interesting to explore through photography such absurd places like the subway where everyone is running in the same direction and never stops.

The condition of shooting in the subway leads me to work on the spot and to meditate in that final moment when an unexpected group of individuals is captured through the lens.
