F5-RE:PLAY is a film festival in New York and the last edition was on April 16th and 17th, 2009. I heard that was a great success...so why not watch 2 films created especially for the festival?

Discovered at PING PONG BASEL 09, KUHL & LEYTON have been collaborating for over five years, and have worked closely as artists for over seven years.
Busted! series features the most prominent cases of celebrity infamy of the last decade. Executed in bi-colored acrylic tape these notorious 60” x 80” portraits include the likes of Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton, and O.J. Staring back at us they question our obsession with their fall from grace and portray America’s lust for gossip, violence and fame.
Marvielab
MARIAVITTORIA SARGENTINI was born in Perugia, Italy. After studying arts, philosophy, design and costume, she has worked as a style-assistant to Antonio Marras for two years and for Carpe Diem for three years. The developing of the Linea project for Maurizio Altieri marks the culmination of her educational development and the birth of her own brand, MARVIE.
Her first project S+M+L was shown for the first time at the Pitti Rooms in 2007 and it awoke the interest of the press and public. With this project, MARIAVITTORIA SARGENTINI revises classic cuts by alternating sizes, the result is an interesting play with volume and silhouettes. This results in three substantially different dynamic interchageable silhouette.

English artist ADAM MCEWEN's work includes includes a series of obituaries written about living celebrities, haiku-like text messages taken out of context and framed and a realistic oil painting of an air conditioner. Irreverent and witty? Yes, and we like that @ WFW!
"I had a standard Nokia phone, which is the most common phone in Europe, and I got somebody to design a font that exactly matched my phone's-pixel by pixel. Because this context is so familiar and everyone sees it every day in its most banal function, you could surprise yourself with meaning. It's the same thing as walking down the street and seeing a sign on a store that says sorry, we're closed. The familiarity of that opens up the possibility of throwing in the unfamiliar."
"They're all real texts, texted to me or texted to friends of mine who've forwarded them to me."

I've discovered the hyperrealistic painting by KAREL FUNK @ Art Basel 40. She produces portraits of men shown in head-and-shoulders view, painted in acrylic on wood panel.
I'm just fascinated by the extreme precision of the rendering and the imprecision of the space and by the personal and the anonymous of her portraits.
Chris Searl
CHRIS SEARL currently works as both Editor and Senior Photographer of the arts/design title Monster Children and Paperplane Magazine. He is also a director and co-owner of the Monster Children Gallery. His work captures the youthful exuberance so sorely missed by marketeers and advertising folk.
Chris has shot for Nylon, Vice, and Beikoku Ongaku, Japan, and Intersection magazine. And on a gratuitously cool note, Chris was invited as a guest photographer on Spike Jonze's "Where the Wild Things Are".
David OReilly
PLEASE SAY SOMETHING is a 10 minute short animation -created by DAVID OREILLY- concerning a troubled relationship between a Cat and Mouse set in the distant Future. The final film was completed in January 2009 and contains 23 episodes of exactly 25 seconds each. Images from it can be seen on the Flickr.
The film won the Golden Bear for best short at the 2009 Berlinale and the Special Distinction award at Annecy!
Watch with caution, it could make or ruin your day depending on your mood.
