Francesca Lanzavecchia

opposing the iconic thick and rigid image neck braces have, delicate lace is coated with flexible plastic to support the neck in the style of a Victorian collar

the deletion of the image of a neck brace through reduction, while function is fully retained

back braces are the first representatives of bodily differences. FRANCESCA reinterpreted them with the aim of transforming them objects of desire and representative skins

Transpirations patterns are mechanically produced right after the extrusion of the sheet

Using the brace as a canvas for self-expression, types of extreme body modification can be executed on it, rendering it a true second-skin

Who claimed that medical devices must not be stylish? These back braces and neck braces designed by FRANCESCA LANZAVECCHIA turn bodies into sculptures.

FRANCESCA earned a degree in Product Design from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. In 2008, she obtained a Master degreein IM-Conceptual Design in Context from the Design Academy of Eindhoven where her thesis project "ProAesthetics Supports: The Perception of Disability through its Artifacts" was tutored by DROOG Design co-founder GIJS BAKKER (not bad isn' it?).
