The Rat Race is a fusion of rat and technology. The idea: we are all rats in a competitive race to the top. Technology plays a key role in enhancing each rat but staying on top of technological progress (new software, programming languages, memes, etc) is a job onto itself. 2008

Portal creates a doorway from a diffuser screen and has abstract lines of light that travel back and forth through the door, bouncing around the room. Created as an installation for Roger Tator Galerie for Superflux in Lyon, France. December 2008

You & Me is a minimal piece about relationship dynamics. Nine fluorescent tubes have the ballasts and the bulbs separated to create two different words. March 2006

James Clar is an interactive lighting designer and installation artist from New York and Tokyo. His work explores the properties of light to create dynamic forms and new methods of communication while fusing together art theory with design and technology. He currently works at his studio in Dubai with Traffic Design Gallery where he is also Director of Interactive Media.
